The traditional Chouine World Championships take place in the capital, Lavardin, on the first Sunday in March
Chouine is a very popular card game in the Central West of France and especially in the Loire Valley. Its origins date back to the sixteenth century.
Each year since 1974 this event has been a great success with a hundred of participants of all ages. Juniors and seniors, women and men participate in this championship organized by "the Friends of Lavardin".
Among its organizers and specialists of this game we have to mention Pierre Chavigny, former mayor of Lavardin and Jacques Proust perpetuating the continuity of the card game by providing beginners courses for a few weeks before the Championships.
Do not forget to mention the traditional country stew specially prepared by the village for this event, bringing together players and supporters, with up to 135 diners.
At the end of the championships, cups and awards are presented to winners.
